WHAT IS INTERVARSITY?
Intervarsity is a friendly annual competition between the Melbourne, Monash and RMIT universities' DanceSport clubs. No matter you just start dancing or take only a few lessons, here is the place to shine and meet people similar as you from our sister clubs.
Members from all clubs compete in the styles of Latin, Ballroom, Salsa, Swing and Argentine Tango, and judges will choose the winners in each category. There will also be performances and social dancing!

WHAT IF I'M A BEGINNER?
Competition events are broken up into different experience levels so you will be competing against people at the same standard as you are, so beginners are encouraged to join!

WHAT IF I AM NOT SURE WHETHER I AM A BEGINNER OR NOT?
If you have taken 6 or more classes (at MDS or outside studio) at intermediate level then you should enter as an intermediate level competitor instead of beginner. If you dance less than 6 month and have taken less than 12 classes in that given style, then you can compete as a beginner. However, if you partner with someone in a higher level than you then you still need to compete in a higher level to match with your partner. If both of you and your potential partner are from intermediate level then you two can’t switch roles and compete in beginner level (apply to medalist styles as well). You can compete in a lower level only if you switch role (lead becomes follower/ follower dances as lead), which is not applicable for Above Gold competitors to dance down. SAME SEX COUPLES WILL BE ALLOWED.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A PARTNER?
Ask around in the class! People are usually say yes. If you don’t know anyone from class yet, you can post it on the event page or FB subgroup to look for your partner.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE NIGHT?

All pairs competing in each category will perform their routines at the same time to set music.
Jack & Jill events all competitors also dance at the same time, but participants will dance with someone they have not danced with before and will swap partners every 30 seconds, so will be improvising rather than performing a set routine.
Since they test your leading and following skills, the Jack and Jill events are good to enter if you want to give competition a try but can't confirm a partner.

Don't be put off if you've only just started - these things (while great to show off technique) are won by having heaps of people participate! No competition costumes are allowed, except for showcases. Dress code can refer to dance shoes and outfit
