Class Descriptions

Ballet
Classical ballet is characterized by a standard vocabulary of steps, poses, and graceful movements including pointed feet, rising, jumping, stretching and spinning. It is strengthening, disciplined and stylised.

Contemporary
A modern and expressive form of dance. It has few boundaries, and can be interpreted in countless different ways. It is great for body balance, control, strength and flexibility.

Hip Hop
Hiphop is a dance style usually danced to hiphop music and includes various moves such as breaking, popping, locking and krumping, and even house dance.

Jazz
The latest dance moves to latest music combined with technique, strength, flexibility and balance. A jazz routine incorporates stylized dance movements and combinations, formation changes, group work, leaps and turns.

Latin
A subset of the International Style of Ballroom Dancing, Latin includes the following five dances: Cha cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive. Compared to the typical ballroom dance, Latin dances are generally faster-paced, more sensual, and have more rhythmic expression.

Modern Ballroom
A subset of the International Style of Ballroom Dancing, Modern Ballroom, aka Standard, includes the following five dances: Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango and Viennese Waltz.

Modern Jive
Modern Jive (Aka Ceroc or LeBop) is a modern form of jive. It’s a smooth and stylish partner dance, blending jive, ballroom, salsa and swing. With its versatility of styling and simple movements, it appeals to all tastes and it can be danced to any music with a steady beat from 40s swing to the mainstream music of today. Modern Jive is a great choice for students new to dancing with a partner as there is a strong focus on the lead-follow relationship.

Musical Theatre
Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a song for those epic moments in your life? The first verse of Eminem’s “Lose yourself” at the start of an exam or Hot Chocolate’s “You sexy thing” when you see a really, delicious looking chocolate cake. What if there was a dance number that for each these moments. Musical Theatre does have any of these iconic songs in it (unfortunately) but it does have anything your heart desires and you can dance to. From Moulin Rouge’s El Tango de Roxanne to Grease’s Dance Off Medley, Musical theatre should be a musical lover’s paradise.

Salsa
Salsa is the most popular Latin dance originating from the Caribbean and Latin America. Salsa is a partner dance, although there are recognized solo steps. Salsa is an extremely contagious and addictive dance that is growing in popularity throughout Australia.

Social Dancing
Want to have fun and learn how to dance a range of styles in a social setting? Want to be able to go to a wedding or group event an dance to every song? Then this is the class for you! You’ll learn how to dance social waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, cha cha, rumba and some new vogue dances. Perfect for those who want to become a dancing ‘jack of all trades’!

Street Latin
The term Street Latin is used to describe a style of multiple dances (Salsa, Merengue and Mambo) traditionally danced in clubs, bars and in the streets of Latin America.

Swing
A lively energetic dance that developed with the rise of jazz music in the first half of the 20th Century. Swing dancing jazzy and retro styled, including dances such as the Lindy Hop and Charleston.

Tap
Tap dancing is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats.
